Laurent Ballesta is a French photographer, trained as a marine biologist. He has authored 13 photography books on underwater wildlife and has been a photographer for National Geographic Magazine since 2011. He co-directs Andromède Océanologie, a company dedicated to the study, restoration and enhancement of marine ecosystems.
For the past ten years, he has been leading the Gombessa Expeditions which are based on three emblematic values: a scientific mystery to be solved, a diving challenge to be met, and the promise of unprecedented images.
Six times winner of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year, awarded by the National Museum of London, he is the first photographer, in the last forty years of the competition, to receive the Grand Title twice: in 2021 and 2023. Through his images, Laurent illustrates the underwater world with a scientific and artistic eye.
