The Whaleshark is Karen’s absolute favorite marine creature. But needless to say, there’s so much conservation to do in this world’s fast degrading marine ecosystems. Conserving, spreading knowledge and awareness especially at the grassroots on the importance of marine habitats like Coral Reefs, and Mangrove Systems keep her busy these days as the Director of Conservation of The Mead Foundation (TMF). TMF engages leading local and international scientists/specialists in implementing its conservation programs.
As a SCUBA Instructor for over a decade, she also manages the operations of TMF’s series of non-profit/for conservation dive shops – Finn’s Dive where she applies best practices and her experiences as a dive professional. She’s worked seasons in Tubbataha as boat manager and dive guide with Discovery Fleet, also as PCSSD Executive Director of former DOT Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez, Jr. where milestones programs include renewed support and presence in the dive industry, streamlined and ramped up accreditation for dive establishments and pros, hyperbaric chamber hotline, installations, and trainings, among notable endeavors.
